Today's modular homes go beyond the superior structure and
time savings that gave birth to the industry over a quarter of a century ago. As
the modular industry gained both market share and popularity with architects and
the custom site built home industry the product line expanded
into the thousands of modular plans and features we have today. Each year
both of these elements expand yet again.
If you think about it, every home is built with modular
components. Site builders buy cabinets, windows, doors and trim packages and
then install them in the site built frame. In modular construction we simply
take all of those same components and use them in the same way. The big difference is
we build the entire structure in a factory. Factory building is nothing new to
any of us. We buy cars built in factories, we buy computers again built in
factories. Why do we favor products built in a factory setting? The obvious
answer is quality.
At Schumacher Construction we have built both ways. We have
done on site construction and now use modular construction methods. Our
customers have done their research and found modular is the best way to go. The
modular factory production line, just like for cars and computers, is set up to
perform specialty operations at each point in the build process. Materials stay
dry, a higher degree of accuracy is applied to each operation and the step by
step quality control checks are easy to perform. This provides a high quality
product that is easy for us to work and apply our special field finishes to that
our company is known for. This results in a high quality home for
our customers using the best of factory and on site skilled finishing.

a home for you to best work with your site and family needs.
All of our homes use an abundance of windows. Our customers here in the
Berkshires like a lot of natural light. We use more windows than normal and make
them bigger than normal. Our standard window is the Anderson 400 series which
provides many years of trouble free operation and energy savings day after day.
Yes, We can build one for you too! |
On all of our homes we like to use windows larger than the
norm for the industry. We also like to add the nice trim detail to the homes we
build at Schumacher Construction. Notice the
window sills in this master bath photo. There are two ways to trim out a window.,
The most common is to simply "picture frame it" . This does the job
and looks OK. Many customers though decide to build a new home because they want
a home that is better than just OK.
Our preference is to add the
window sill and apron as that is a feature you expect to find in a high quality
home no matter if it is a nice cape cod style home in Woodstock or a luxury
mansion in Greenwich, Mystic or Avon. The cost for this is so small that we
don't know why all builders do not add this feature. The difference between a
nice home and a great home is not one feature. It is a collection of a number of
things. Some small and some large. The window sills are one of the small items
but provide that quality feel of your home day after day. When you are ready to
sell your home it is these features add to the re-sale value of your home as well.
Our customers like the fact that we can offer all of the
features available on the market today. In the photo above we used Crown molding
for the kitchen cabinets, added some nice eyeball lights and specialty
electrical features like CATVE wiring for TV and Computers. These were all
factory installed. On site, we will add a custom granite countertop to finish
the kitchen and be ready for the housewarming.
Massachusetts is a state of some outstanding architecture and
home features. In this home we went with nine foot tall ceilings, a single tray
ceiling for the dining room and added window transoms to let in plenty of light.
Our New York clients like this for the space and elegance it brings to their
home. The dining room can be closed off with the pocket door at the foyer and a double
15 lite French glass door at the kitchen. Recessed lighting on a dimmer give the
homeowner complete control over the mood for the room for a birthday party or
formal dinner with friends.
This is a home recently set that will also have a solid
surface custom countertop installed on site. We also used a triple casement for
the kitchen window provided by Pella Windows Corporation. We use the tried and
proven components for our homes that are nationally recognized as leaders in
their respective industries. We find the quality to be exceptional, the
warranties are excellent and provide our customers with yet another level of
protection.
